‘Life is Magic’ – Travel to Another World in Your Own Town [Review]
I just began playing this game the other day with my son and his friend and I have to say I am hooked. Life is Magic is a location-based fantasy MMO. Depending on where you live will determine where you play. I am played a number of location based games and most are pretty fun.
Life is Magic is available for iOS and Android devices. When you begin the game/tutorial you are asked to choose between 3 different types of characters: Mage, Machinist, and or Monk. I picked the Monk, who happens to be turtle and one that likes to drink! Each character has special abilities that you can learn and develop. In addition to your skills there is armor, weapons, and accessories specific for each type of character.
Since this is a MMO, there is a social aspect to the game. If connect with Facebook, you can of course invite friends to play. For your in game friends there is a chat screen you can access. When you enter a dungeon to play, you will need a group of three players. My son instantly added me to his party so I have yet to play the game alone. Once you are part of a party then you can enter any dungeon and play, your friends do not have to be online. You will be able to use their characters.
This game is like most other fantasy adventure games. You have to progress through dungeons, defeat various creatures, earn experience to level up, find and/or purchase items to improve weapons, armor, power, etc. The game is free to play but there are numerous items you will need such as mana, travel tokens, crystals. You will earn some as you go along but if you need more you can purchase them in game. The key item of the game is mana or energy. You will need this to do pretty much anything. When you are not playing the game, your character will earn his mana back. I play for a while, take a break and then come back for more adventures.
So how is it location based? Well the main world of the game is placed on top of your current location. In this world view you can visit other cities (with travel tokens) and enter dungeons. Also on the map you will see a banner with your icon on it. This is your town, when you click on this you will be taken to a street view of your town (in the game). Here you will see random buildings that you can enter to get quests, buy items, and more.
You will need your GPS turned on to play the game so it can find where you are located. As you travel around your own town (in real life) you can find more buildings and quests to do (in the game). So one way to explore the game is to physically play the game in different locations.
Overall I have really been enjoying the game. There is a lot to do and explore and being able to play with others online is neat. The graphics are great and I found the game easy to figure so you will be playing in no time. There are no ads in this game- a huge bonus for a free game. So if you are looking for a MMO or just a fun adventure game come on in and try Life is Magic.
