The Opera Mini web browser has gotten an update, which includes:

• Fix for “stuck at first start-up” and issues caused by certain network conditions
• Hungarian language added
• Language fallback set to English, not Arabic
• Various smaller bug and stability fixes

Even though the Opera Mini web browser is free, it still isn’t the best web browser. I prefer the Mercury Web browser which is also free and has lots of features, but you can also get more features for $0.99. The Opera Mini features:

• Speed: Up to 6 times faster browsing, especially on slower or crowded networks.
• Data Savings: Compress up to 90% of data traffic.
• Speed Dial: Get to your favorite Web sites with a single tap.

The Opera Mini web browser gets the job done just fine and works best on a slow internet connection. Like I said earlier, I prefer the Mercury Web Browser which is also free and has lots of features, but you can also get more features for $0.99. The Opera Mini web browser also has some viewing issues and some websites can be very hard to browse. The bottom line: only use the Opera Mini web browser if you are on a slow internet connection.

Then again, the desktop version has a big user base which most of the users have an iPhone or iPod Touch. Now, I’ve spent a few hours with the Opera Mini web browser and it’s an ok web browser. There are better ones I prefer that are on the App Store, but something nice about the Opera Mini web browser that it’s much faster than any of the other web browsers on the App Store. Why? It’s because web servers at Opera compress the page you want to visit then send it to Opera Mini on your iPhone or iPod Touch. Opera Mini also has a tabbing system as well, but it’s not the best compared to other web browsers on the App Store that have a tabbing system. Opera Mini features:

• Speed Dial gets you to your favorite Web sites with a single tap.
• An address field with auto-completion means you type less.
• Tabs allow for multitasking with several Web pages.
• Bookmarks can be easily managed and accessed.
