This Week’s Games: Second Week of June
Welcome to This Week’s Games. Each week we will be previewing and looking at the upcoming games for that week. This week is an extremely quiet week for game releases, as with WWDC currently happening developers and Apple try to avoid publishing games this week. So don’t be surprised if the list is small. As always we will update it if anything else comes along though. So lets get straight into it shall we!
Freak Circus Racing (by Freak Circus Racing.) June 11
Freak Circus Racing is a crazy fun physics based racing game with wacky 2D graphics and solid gameplay. Climb the steepest hills, tune your cars and face off with the mad Freaks. Then challenge your friends and humiliate them!
Freak Circus Racing is a crazy and wacky side scrolling racer. The game was originally posted in last weeks preview post, but has been moved to this week. You have been kicked out of the circus and want to show the freaks who’s the best racer in town. Over 40 levels you and Hugo will beat many obstacles whilst adapting your car along the way. The controls are simple: tap accelerate to move forward, and brake to move back. The same two controls are also used to stabilize your vehicle when you go over a jump.
The levels throw tough challenges from the get go, meaning it will take a while to complete all 40 of them completely. You can also customize your vehicle by changing your power, spin, grip, stability and also changing the design of the car through the garage shop. The game does have IAP though, as you can only play levels with gas in your tank, meaning you have to wait 30 minutes for it to full up, letting you have ten attempts at completing levels every half an hour. Alternatively you can watch an advertisement to fill the tank up.
Spirit Of War: The Great War (by BulkyPix) June 11
Accessible for newcomers and deep for wargaming veterans,Spirit of War: The Great War invites players to relive key battles of WWI on virtual table-top battlefieds divided in hex cases.
Coming out on iOS after about a month on Steam, Spirit of War: The Great War is a top down table top battlefield game set during WWI. You can command many units over air, land and sea in this turn based game. Before each turn you have to think smartly about where you want to position your units to skirmish. You have lots of choices of units all with different attack and defending abilities, so choosing the best unit is also important. You and your opponent take it in turns to move closer to each others base. You can only move a certain amount of hexagons at a time though, so there will be no moving straight to their base from the start.
The gameplay is simple, move your unit, or attack, those are your options. You have the ability to attack when your unit is placed next to an opponent. Be careful though as if you don’t defeat them, they will fight back. You can play the well made campaign and its 48 mission or join in on the incredibly fun multiplayer which has 12 maps to compete on. What impressed me the most about this game is that the battles actually follow actual stories from WWI so not only are you having fun, you are learning! (Even if you don’t want to).
Try Harder (by Adult Swim) June 11
Not a suggestion. Not a pro-tip. TRY HARDER is a mandate. Sprint headlong into certain death and put your mobile reflexes to the test. Run longer. Jump higher. Try harder. If none of those work: TRY HARDER.
We haven’t had a chance to try this game yet, but considering it has been published by the people at Adult Swim we expect it to be a quality release. It looks like an endless runner where the aim is to run as much meters as possible by jumping and trying harder each time. The game has Game Center leaderboard and hidden achievements to try to complete. The game releases for free tomorrow.
