‘Layers of Fear’ is insane. Insanely scary. [Review]
Following the massive success of Layers of Fear 1 and 2 on Xbox One, PS4, Windows, Mac & Nintendo Switch, the award-winning studio Bloober Team have ported the game onto iOS, which you can download now. But when I say ported, they’ve done so much more than that. From new objects and interactions redesigned specifically for mobile and a fluid point-and-click movement system, the game feels like it belongs on mobile.
Gorgeous graphics, eerie lighting and original artwork & music give the game a level of depth and immersion rarely seen in mobile horror games. But let’s be clear here, this is console/PC quality on iOS. You walk in the shoes of an insane painter, gradually losing his mind. You must explore the Victorian-era mansion to uncover the secret of his madness and attempt to finish the masterpiece he’s been striving to create for so long.
Layers of Fear truly immerses you in the character and the world. Taking the ‘insane’ thing to the next level, every turn of the camera could change the way you perceive the world. You can’t rely on your senses to guide you – you don’t know if you can trust them. The game scares you in clever ways and is far from predictable. The scariest thing is knowing that something’s going to happen, but not knowing how, when, where or why.
With near-perfect 5/5 reviews from Games Radar+, The Escapist and Digitally downloaded, all horror fans should go and check out this game. Oh and, if you think you’re brave, wear a good pair of noise cancelling headphones while you play.
