Jagex Celebrates 18 Years of RuneScape, Announces Huge Milestones
Just a couple days ago on Friday, January 4th, Jagex announced the 18th birthday of the RuneScape franchise following expansion on to mobile. Starting out as Runescape Classic and going through a few iterations and updates, the game has reached some significant achievements both in 2018 and over its lifetime.
After the successful launch of Old School RuneScape on mobile, subscriber levels are now over 1 million players. Throughout 2018 here are the milestones reached by Jagex and their game:
- More than 5million installs of Old School RuneScape.
- Cumulative lifetime revenue for the RuneScape franchise passed $1 billion.
- Monthly active users more than doubled over the year with big gains in the last quarter.
- Highest ever attendance for annual player convention RuneFest.
- More than 100 new hires were added to the Jagex team.
It’s no surprise Old School Runescape on iOS and Android has been such a huge hit. For a number of years now gamers in the community have wondered if, and when, RuneScape would make it to mobile seen as how devices like the iPhone and iPad have the processing power to run such games. Finally last year after a lot of waiting, gamers calls were answered.
