For those that don’t know, “selfie” won the Oxford Dictionary’s Word of The Year in 2013, but taking a snap of yourself isn’t anything new — the earliest selfie was taken in 1839. There are now loads of selfie apps on the market, with selling points ranging from vintage filters to face-swapping weirdness. Ubisoft‘s latest game has a new twist to the formula, however.
Face Up challenges you and your friends to act out a variety of moods and guess the answers correctly – a sort of selfie charades. It’s not as easy as pulling a happy or sad face, though. There are all sorts of weird and wonderful actions to test you and your friends’ am-dram skills, everything from animal impressions to your best hangover face. You can compete to achieve the highest score, and successful guesses can nab you all sorts of stickers and emojis to soup-up your selfies.
There are different game modes to choose from, including Your Face When and Combo. Combo requires a little bit more creativity. I mean, how does one accurately convey both being lost and being a chicken?!
Of course selfies are usually taken with the intention of being shared, and Face Up has an easy integrated sharing function so you can fill your timeline with every facial expression under the sun. But the app works offline too, so you can keep you and your mates entertained even if you’re somewhere without WiFi to 4G/LTE.
You can download Face Up – The Selfie Game for free from the App Store, however, there are in-app purchases.
