Picture this, a Princess is stuck in a castle, and is waiting for her Prince Charming to come and rescue her. That’s what the premise for Dragon Hills first appears to be, but that is not where this story ends. You see unlike the classic fairy tail, this game goes all Brothers Grimm on you with Prince Charming stealing the Princess’s chest of gold and running off with it, not even caring about her welfare.
The Princess, obviously in anger and distraught after not getting rescued goes to her last resort, her dragon which has been hiding in the castle with her. On this dragon she releases her wrath across the land. It’s almost like developer Cezary Rajkowski was inspired by Daenerys from Game of Thrones.
You play as the princess and ride your Dragon below and above ground killing anything that gets in your way, whilst you collect gold and boosts. You kill your enemies by landing on them. Holding the screen will bring your Dragon down, whilst letting go will cause him to climb. Think Super Mega Worm cross Tiny Wings. Don’t think the enemies won’t fight back though, as they will throw their weapons at you and your Dragon in defence. Every time you get hit, you lose a life, lose all your lives and it’s game over. Your aim is to get to the next area by first getting past, or killing the soldiers and knights in the area you are in, and then, defeating the bigger main bosses in the Boss Fights.
As you play the game more you will be able to spend your coins to purchase armour and better swords which will make the more difficult levels of the game easier to play. The levels themselves do get more difficult with the addition of bigger boss’s and lava which when hit directly can kill you instantly.
The game has some amazing visual effects and I am a huge fan of the games cartoon graphic style which is very well produced and easy on the eyes. The control scheme is very simple and easy to get a grip of, and the levels are well laid out and progress well. It’s no wonder why Apple picked this game up as an ‘Editors Choice’. If you are after a good time killing game for traveling, then give Dragon Hills a go.
