A study done by the makers of game engine Unity shows that videos that reward the players are the best form of in-game advertising on mobile platforms.
The study, which was done late last year asked over 2000 gamers and developers their preferred form of in-game advertising. 46% of those surveyed stated that they preferred an advertisement that rewards them with in-game currency, 29% preferred a full screen picture, 20% a banner picture and 5% voted for an interstitial video.
The study provides us with an idea of the best way people want to pay for free games. The survey shows that people would much rather watch in game ads that reward them than pay for in app purchase. That is understandable though as who would want to spend their hard earned money if there is an option to not do so?
The survey also presents some interesting data for game developers. 52% of the game developers surveyed identified video ads as the best way to make revenue per user compared to any other form of in-game advertising. Something worth taking not of if you are currently developing a game.
The rest of the interesting report can be found at the unity site and is worth reading by both gamers and developers.
