Somewhere between Tetris and Space Invaders, you’ll find an amazing game that is equal parts strategy, action, and puzzle. That game, Sorus Shield, finds you in command of the starship Sorus, the only hope for ensuring that aliens don’t succeed in taking control of the universe. Using light mines, the aliens are determined to cut off different parts of the universe from one another, but the Sorus is equipped with a special weapon that can neutralize these light mines.
Game play in Sorus Shield is deceptively simple, with easy to learn controls. However, the title is exquisitely challenging, since the output of Sorus’s weapon is laid down in various patterns that you have to rotate and maneuver to create filled lines. The only caveat to Sorus Shield is that you have to be careful not to swipe up too quickly if you’re moving pieces upwards, or you will lock them into position prematurely.
Sorus Shield has excellent graphics that have the luminance that is suggestive of the weapon’s ability to entrap and harmlessly detonate the light mines. One of the best parts of the game, though, may very well be the musical background to the game. It is equally science fiction-oriented and electronica, giving the game a real atmosphere of a modern-day version of both Tetris and Space Invaders.
Sorus Shield is available on the App Store for $1.99, without any advertisements or in-app purchases. The game is designed for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, and requires iOS 8 or later.
