Casual games are supposed to be fun while also challenging your basic reaction and coordination skills. Using gesture-based controls is a terrific way to do this, and some games take better advantage of this than others. In Cut Cut Ninja, you need to practice your speed and ability to draw basic shapes in order to cut timbers. So, the game has the reaction and coordination skills down, but what about fun? Let’s take a look.
You build up your skills by cutting shapes on timbers with your katana. Each timber, falling from the sky, has a particular shape on it, and your task is to replicate that shape. The timbers start falling faster and more frequently, challenging you to move quickly. It’s definitely a challenge, and exciting as you try to defeat each level.
You also get scrolls falling from the sky, with various shapes on them. Duplicate each shape, and you cast a powerful spell that will help you play in some way. You can also unlock new characters, using coins that come in chests falling from the sky. Some of these characters have abilities that you can activate to give you a fighting chance at success.
The game has two play modes, solo mode and versus mode. In versus mode, you can challenge a friend to see who is better at slicing and dicing the timbers. Your challenge takes place in real time, so you’re playing against people who have the game and are in it at the same time you are.
Cut Cut Ninja is designed for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, and is available for free on the App Store. It includes ads and in-app purchases to remove those advertisements, as well as purchase more coins.
