This Week’s Games: Second Week of July
We took a brief break last week with our “Coming this Week” post as I was overseas on a long awaited vacation, however, I am now back and ready to preview this weeks upcoming games.
In previous months we have been able to see what games have been coming out thanks to Apple’s release structure of games, where they were published first in New Zealand at midnight. This has now changed and we will only see the games when they release worldwide, meaning we have to wait longer to see all the unknown games coming each week. We will continue to post the games we are aware about though, and will update the post as the other games release.
Don’t Starve: Pocket Edition (by Klei Entertainment) — July 19th
Don’t Starve: Pocket Edition, brings the hit PC game enjoyed by over 4 million players to the iPad. Now you can experience the uncompromising wilderness survival game full of science and magic on the go!
The incredibly popular PC and console game is making its long awaited release on iOS, coming out on iPad this Thursday. I played the game on my Playstation and I can say it is great fun. You wake up in foreign land, in a forest. There you must find supplies and as the title suggests Don’t Starve.
Forever Lost: Episode 3 (by Glitch Games) — July 9th
Founded in 1806, the Hawthorne Asylum was active during a time when patients were treated less like people and more like lab rats. Although closed down in the 50’s due to changing ethical standards it is said that experiments were still being conducted for decades to come.
Forever Lost: Episode 3 is the third and concluding episode in the popular point and click game series for iOS. Explore the mysteries of the asylum as you complete different puzzles, rooms and explore the games many objects. I myself played the first Forever Lost and it was quite enjoyable. I would recommend playing both the first and second episodes before the third though, so you can connect the stories.
Jetpack Joust (by Rondo Rocket) — July 9th
Strap on your jetpack and grab your lance it’s time for Jetpack Joust! See how many floors you can climb while battling enemies and keeping your fuel tanks full.
What do you get when you combine Jetpacks and Jousting? Jetpack Joust. Joust your way up the many floors with one of the 6 characters you can play as. Defeat the many enemies by knocking them with your joust and try to keep the fuel tank as full as you can.
Shooting Stars (by Noodlecake Studios) — July 9th
Shooting Stars is a refreshing colorful and funny take on the classic arcade shoot’em up, bullet hell, shmup, space invader like, whatever you want to call it – but finally, with evil aliens disguised as superstars, cats and rainbow lazers. Superstars like Justin Belieber, PewDerPie, Kanye East and many more.
I had the luxury of testing this game in its early BETA a couple months back, and back then I was impressed with the gameplay. The best way to describe it is as a Space Invaders style game, except instead of aliens they are parodies of celebrities and viral sensations who yell out their catch phrases. I was a bit disappointed to not be in the game chucking iPhone 6’s at people.
The Mesh (by Creatiu Lab) — July 9th
Combine the numbered tiles and find the best way to achieve the highest score possible. But, be careful and think twice every move! If The Mesh runs out of cells, the game is over.
The game looks stunning and I am really impressed with the music and art style the developers have taken in developing it. To play you must make the highest number possible using the many different tiles which are available. Each time you reach a goal you unlock another animal, reach 200 to collect them all. If you like number and puzzle games, then The Mesh is worth checking out.
We will add more games to this post as we become aware of their release, in the meantime checkout other weeks releases.
If you are a developer or publisher with a game coming out soon, and want to see your game featured, send us a tweet or contact us via email.
