Apple’s upcoming watch operating system, watchOS 2, will finally support native third-party apps on the Watch. Up until now, the Watch “handed off” the app logic to the phone, making third-party apps painfully slow. Developers Steve Troughton-Smith and Adam Bell have managed to build the first native third-party application on the Apple Watch. Discovered first by 9to5Mac, the developers posted a video on Twitter showing off the functionality.
Even though watchOS 2 brings ‘native’ applications to the Watch, it still has its limits. This hack breaks all barriers and has full access to the iOS UI frameworks.
The video should also shine some light on those anticipating an Apple Watch jailbreak. Obviously this isn’t an actual jailbreak, but breaking Apple’s limitations is always a good sign.
