Apple Promotes Jony Ive to Chief Design Officer
Apple CEO Tim Cook sent out an internal memo to Apple employees today stating that Jony Ive, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Design, has been promoted to a brand new role: Chief Design Officer. Originally obtained by 9to5Mac, Apple has also promoted Richard Howarth, who’s been on the iPhone team for a long time, as its new Vice President of Industrial Design in charge of hardware design.
Alan Dye, who has been the Human Interface Chief, has also received a promotion. Dye is now Apple’s Vice President of User Interface Design for both mobile and desktop user interface experiences. The Chief Design Officer was a role created specifically for Ive, according to Cook.
