Now that the bendgate is slowly dwindling down after a scientific test that was conducted as well as Apple’s official statement, let’s take a moment to step back to look at what is causing the iPhone 6 Plus to bend in these circumstances. As we’ve said a couple times already, when enough force is applied to a thin sheet of metal, it will slightly bend and stay like that. Noted in Marques Brownlee‘s video above, the bendgate isn’t specific to just the iPhone 6 Plus. Other phones like the iPhone 5S, Samsung Galaxy S4, and Sony Xperia Z1 also suffer from the bendgate. Additionally, another good note Marques points out is that sometimes a thinner phone doesn’t mean it’s always better. If Apple would have made the iPhone 6 Plus just a tad thicker, there would be no protruding camera lens and a bigger battery could have been used.
