‘Tetéu’ is Your Animated Football Assistant For Live Updates [Review]
Today we will take a look at the 2014 FIFA soccer app called Tetéu which is available for Apple devices with iOS version 6.0 and above. Tetéu is an app specifically designed for tracking the progress of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil that’s currently going on as of the writing of this review, plus the app’s most unique feature is the pigeon named “Tetéu” that talks to you about soccer.
When you first open the app, you’re asked to select one of three languages, either English, Spanish, or Portuguese. For this review we are going to choose to use the English language. After choosing a language, a 3D animated pigeon named “Tetéu” appears on the screen then begins talking to you in the language that you picked. You can choose to rename Tetéu to anything that you want, and then afterwards you’re asked to choose a match.
Choosing a match gives you updates on goals, cards, and notifications when that match goes live. After you choose a match, you’re directed into the main menu of Tetéu and here you can see all the live scores, commentaries, cards, and players on the match that is currently playing live.
While this review was being written, the match between Bosnia-Herzegovina and Nigera was being played so it’s currently showing the commentaries between the two teams for event that happens. On the 90 minute mark, it shows that the second half has ended meaning the game is over with Nigeria leading by 1 point. Tetéu acts a bit strangely, it shows Bosnia-Herzegovina with 1 and Midtjylland having 0, even though the match-up going on at the time was Bosnia-Herzegovina vs. Nigeria, and Nigeria eventually ended up winning the match. It might be a glitch only going on for this match and this version, and might not show up in a later update or a later match. You can also see the goals and cards issued during the match.
Along with the commentaries, the four other main sections Tetéu‘s main menu are: Groups, Match Schedule, Top Scores, and Standings. In the Standings menu, you can see which teams are currently leading in the world cup inside of their groups. It gives you a good list of Games Played (GP), Wins (W), Draws (D), Loses (L), Goals Score (GS), Goals Against (GA), Goals Difference (GD+/-), and Points (P).
As you can see from the screenshot it gives you all the details about every team in the Fifa World Cup this year. There is an issue with Draws (D) though, for some reason it’s not updating. For example, Brazil and Mexico have one draw each but for whatever reason it doesn’t show up in Tetéu correctly. If you tap on any team, for example if you tap on Brazil, it gives you the list of players and their positions in that team.
It’s one of the better features of this app because you can actually view each player of every team individually and keep track of how many goals, cards, and assists they get. If you have any favorite players for any team then you can see how well they do by checking out their scores. Speaking of scores, you can also see which player has scored the most amount of goals for any given team by going to the Top Scores section.
This is another one of the better features in Tetéu because you can actually see which players have scored the most points in any team. The highest points anyone has made is 3 points, and so far 5 different players in 4 different teams have score 3 goals. Netherlands is one of the stronger teams according to this chart because they actually two players skillful enough to score three points each. You can also see the entire Match Schedule for the Fifa World Cup 2014 in Brazil by going to the Match Schedule menu.
You can see the schedule and the times for every match in the World Cup this year by going to the Match Schedule screen. This menu has a lot of features that can be improved upon or fixed though because it doesn’t do anything else other than show you the match schedule. If you tap on any of the matches, even if it were a match that had already taken place, it brings you to a screen and asks you which team you believe is going to win.
This feature doesn’t make much sense as even if you select a match that has already taken place, it will only ask you which team you believe will win, it doesn’t show you the current amount of points in that game or anything else. This is a feature that can be improved upon or fixed because for example, the match between Brazil and Croatia has already taken place, and yet in the screenshot as you can see, still asks for which team you believe will win.
The main feature of the app is the pigeon “Tetéu” who comes out to greet you whenever a goal takes place or whenever a card is given to a player in the current game. You can change all of these notifications in the main menu so you can decide on what reasons Tetéu will come on the screen.
Overall, Tetéu is a good app for those who want to keep track of the FIFA 2014 World Cup scores. The app does feel rushed sometimes though because there are some minor glitches and issues here and there, but the app is able to do its job. The biggest issue appears in the Match Schedule screen in which it’s supposed to show the results and scores of the matches that had already taken place, however it appears to only lead you to a voting screen that doesn’t do anything after you vote. Other than that though, it’s an app that you should at least check out in the Apple App Store if you want to keep track of the World Cup in Brazil.
