SomaSim Releases Gold Rush Sim ‘1849’ for Mac and iOS!
The time has finally come folks — SomaSim‘s newest title 1849, a Gold Rush-era city building game, has finally landed onto the App Store after much anticipation. Following an early access beta release, the final version of 1849 is now available to download for PC through Steam, Mac, as well as iPad. Set during one of the most historically important times of American history, 1849 features 20 levels set in California cities with graphics inspired from that time period. In each level, players must grow the local economy while balancing the needs of citizens against Gold Rush scenarios and challenges. Adding on, each city will have their own unique topography and natural resources that influence how they grow.
At MacWorld 2014 earlier this year, we had a chance to sit down and talk to the developers behind 1849. During the small amount of time we were allotted, they gave us a fairly in-depth look int the game plus we were able to try it out for ourselves. At the moment the game still needed some polishing and fixing up, however, we still really liked the game. But between now and than, it’s safe to say that game has been improved and everything that needed fixing has been fixed. So if you’re a fan of city building games, we highly recommend you check out 1849.
Features:
- A campaign mode that traces the development of the Gold Rush from mining camps to bustling cities. Each city scenario presents players with unique starting conditions, victory goals, and obstacle events.
- Vivid Old West towns with geography and architecture directly inspired by California’s Gold Country.
- Over 50 resources to dig up, farm, refine or manufacture as you build complex towns and cities.
- Classic city management gameplay meets modern technology in a sim tailored specifically for tablet/touch screen play.
“Over the last few years casual city management games have gained popularity, but they’re nothing like the in-depth simulation games that defined the genre back in the day. Those were games I could lose myself in for hours, building a massive empire out of nothing. We’ve tried to bring back this gameplay and experience in 1849,” says developer Robert Zubek. “It’s a game tuned for today’s technology and players — the scenarios are designed so you can play for a few minutes on the bus if that’s all the time you have, or spend hours building a huge bustling city. At its heart 1849 is a classic city management game with all the bells and whistles that make this genre so much fun.”
