‘Alien Shooter EX’ Game Review
I ran through a field, taking down relentless aliens that got in my way and then I saw it, the gate! Finally, I could escape my impending doom, but wait I needed a key! I ran towards a building, examined the glowing closet and acquired the key and that was when another wave of aliens hit — threatening to defeat me once and for all! I quickly switched from the pistol to my rifle and began the Scarface-style rampage. My ammo was running low and I will still a few meters from the gate, luckily I got there in time and so my journey began.
Aliens, big guns and a dull storyline — I guess that was what I thought was in-store for me when I started the tutorial for Alien Shooter EX. I was right on the first two, but I was completely wrong on the third point. I can’t say that I was ever a huge fan of sci-fi games, but Halo certainly gave me a spark of interest. I’m glad that Alien Shooter EX still gives me that exhilarating rush every time that I play it. This 3D game is the perfect blend of mobile and console graphics, it definitely doesn’t burn through my battery, either.
Alien Shooter EX features some of the best graphics I’ve ever seen on mobile, as-well as some of the best gameplay you can get on mobile as of right now. I’d comfortably play this instead of a FPS console game if I had to and in-fact, I think this provides a much more enjoyable gameplay experience than some newer games do.
I quite liked the birds-eye view style of the game, it especially works well in this context allowing you to see incoming aliens and objectives without looking at the mini-map. You are walked through the game by a commander who will occasionally lead you through various points in the game, however, most of it is quite self-explanatory to be honest. Like all great games, there are a few paid elements, but none of these are compulsory. For example, you can purchase coins and cash to upgrade weapons, armor, tactics and such. I think some of these definitely improve the gameplay experience but I wouldn’t say you would be missing out if you didn’t have them.
I really liked the intelligence of the aliens, it’s quite interesting to see who your enemies really are instead of just shooting at them. Another feature that I liked was the achievements and online missions, where you can play with your friends — I think that is pretty cool, especially for a mobile game. It’s safe to say that Alien Shooter EX is one of my favorite mobile games of this year. I just wish there was downloadable content to expand the game, because I would definitely like to see more missions played online. To be honest at $1.99 on the App Store, this game is a steal.
