How to: Save Maps Offline in Google Maps for iOS
Just recently Google updated their popular iOS app, Google Maps, which brought a whole wave of new changes and additions including a new design for the iPad. One unannounced and almost overlooked feature was the ability to save maps for offline viewing for any given time. Well without any further to do, you can read our how to guide below if you need any help.
- Make sure you have the latest version of Google Maps for iOS, then open it on your device.
- Navigate/zoom to the area that you want to save for offline viewing.
- Tap the search box at the top and type: “Ok maps” (with no quotations).
- Tap on “Search”.
- Next, a screen will show saying Google Maps is pre-loading map data.
- After it has successfully downloaded the map for offline use, a message saying “The on-screen map area has been cached” will pop up.
If you happen to store a lot of maps for offline use, it will begin to take up a considerable amount of space on your device. With that said, you can clear it by doing the following: Settings -> About, Terms & Privacy -> Terms & Privacy -> Clear application data. Enjoy!
