Conquer Europe in ‘Medieval Battlefields’! [Review]
Medieval Battlefields is a turn based strategy game based in Medieval Europe. This game has been out a while and is available for both Android and iOS devices, however, I tested the game on an iPad Mini. The way the game is setup it should do well on both larger and small screens. Your goal is to destroy your opponents by capturing their castles and defending your own. You start off with at least 1 castle and it is within its walls that all your planning and building takes place.
Each turn you will collect the gold and then take it to buy buildings, military units, or upgrade your existing items. After your work within your castle walls are done, you then can proceed outside and move any units you might have on the battlefield. To move a unit it, simply tap it. The board will indicate where you can/cannot move and what enemy units you can/cannot attack. Once this is done, then your turn is over and the AI or other player goes.
The key to victory is upgrading — the more buildings and upgrades you have, the more units you can call into battle. You will be given a list of all possible buildings and units and when you tap on them, it will tell you want you need to build to get them. You can only build/upgrade 1 building and 1 unit per turn so a little bit of planning would be good. In addition, there is no timer so take you time!
After looking through the help section and playing a game, I figured out pretty much what to do. One thing I did learn is that if you have an active unit sitting on the castle, you cannot create anymore so it is important to move them in the field when you get a chance.
The game has 3 modes:
- Campaign
- Skirmish and Hotseat- you can against a human or the AI in a simple game
- Online- you can play online against the AI or other humans, up to 8 players.
There are 26 different maps or boards you can choose from when playing and 27 medieval army units you can use. For the online multiplayer, there is in game chat and top player charts/rankings. The graphics are good and the gameplay is smooth as well. I like that you can play online and there are a nice variety of maps. Now it is not the Game of Thrones but it is worth your time if you enjoy turn based strategy games. You can also download the free version here.
