After MacWorld: BOOM Commander In-Ear Headphones Gray Edition [Review]
While at MacWorld 2013 we stopped by BOOM Movement‘s booth where they were demoing and selling their sweet line of in-ear headphones along with their over-ear headphones. We were able to get a copy of their Commander In-Ear Headphones (Gray Edition) to try out and eventually write a review, which you are reading right now. This time around, unlike a traditional review for a game or a case where we just review that certain product and don’t compare it to anything, we’ll be comparing the Commander In-Ear Headphones to Apple’s new EarPods. So, let’s begin!
How They Compare
Apple recently released their new EarPods, a huge upgrade to the previous model. The sound is greatly improved, the bass is deeper, and fit in a wide variety of ears. What about the Commander In-Ear Headphones? They’re your typical in-ear headphones that come with changeable sizes to fit different ear sizes for maximum comfort. But with Apple’s EarPods, it’s almost a “one size fits all” if you want to call it that (watch this video for a better understanding). With that said, there’s no need to worry about changing different pieces for a better fit. Granted the Commander In-Ear Headphones are still comfortable though — some people have just have a certain preference.
But what about the sound quality? With the EarPods’ upgraded sound quality they’re easily comparable to headphones like these for example. We briefly talked about the EarPods’ sound quality earlier, but to me the BOOM Commander Headphones have better sound quality. What about the over all quality of the Commander Headphones though? They sport a metal housing (for both the earphone part plus the audio control part) and the cord is wrapped in some sort of rope-like enclosure. So no need worry about the headphones falling apart or the cord fraying — the Commander Headphones are solid and well built without any doubt. Traveling or going on a road trip? No problem about that! The Commander Headphones even come with a nice carrying bag for easy storage.
Continuing on, the Commander Headphones run $49.99 while the EarPods are only $29.99 — a huge $20 difference. So the real question is: Are the Command Headphones worth the extra money? Absolutely. The sound quality is better than Apple’s EarPods, plus the over all quality and build of these headphones are superb. If you can’t afford the $49.99 price tag, you may want to take a look at their Leader Headphones.
Rating: 4.5/5 Stars
Why4 out of 5 stars? While the price can kind of be justified, it still seems like a lot. Overall these headphones are great, but slightly over priced to a point.
