‘Centrailia’ – All Aboard the Puzzle Train! [Review]
Everyone loves trains! I was looking around the app store a while back and stumbled upon this game Centrailia. It involved trains and puzzle, so I gave it a try. It is a super fun game and definitely worth the download. Oh it is free too!
You are an engineer and your job is to move the appropriate cars around in the train yard. It took me a little while to get the hang of things even after doing the tutorial. On the iTunes page for the game, the developers describe the game as:
“merging an industrial railroad simulation with a clever brainteaser and a touch of strategy”
I think this is the perfect description of the game (even I wish that I thought of it). Okay on to some specifics. The game is free and allows you to play a couple puzzles. If you want to unlock the whole game you can with a one time $0.99 in app purchase. You will get endless game scenarios with over three dozen yards and a random yard-generation feature. That is a huge amount of content and game play.
I did not find Centrailia to be a fast game. It can be challenging and you really need to do some planning. Another aspect of the game that the playing area stretches far about and below the actual screen- so it is a very large train yard.
Your job is to find and line up the specified colored cars in a certain order on the side track. There are cars in your way, switches to be set, and you can only move up and down. You need to know that if you are looking for a blue car, there actually will be numerous ones to choose from! I did not realize that at first and when I did, that made a big difference. So you finding the cars and then planning how to move them will up most of your time.
The game has 2 menus. The Top menu has the timer and switch-list, which is the overview of color cars needed for the puzzle. The Bottom menu has L, which is used to locate the engine, Next car, which is used to find the next car, and the Controller, which is used to drive engine forward or backwards. You can choose which side you want the controller on (right or left). You will be using both menus while you play.
The graphics and sounds/voices are perfect for game. The graphics, sounds, and voice are nicely done and very appropriate for the game. I would recommend Centrailia for anyone that enjoys puzzles and looking for a game with a lot of replay options.
