Interview with Scott Wilson-Billing, Designer/Developer of ‘Cannibal Cookout’
Over the last couple of days, I had the chance to interview Scott Wilson-Billing, the designer/developer of Cannibal Cookout. So, without any further to do, read on below for the entire interview!
PocketFullOfApps: So, tell us a little about Cannibal Cookout.
Scott: Cannibal Cookout is a crazy, fun and unique game. The aim of the game is very simple – cook your way to the top! You do this by collecting ingredients that can be used to complete a book of fun recipes. Now this is where it gets interesting, many of the recipes require body parts from a race of little guys called the Nibblers. You need to catch these Nibblers and cook them in your pot. Only trouble is that these guys don’t go down without a fight, nor will the towns people let you get away with cooking them. All sorts of foes will be sent to try and attack your pot and rescue the Nibblers.
PocketFullOfApps: Can we expect a sequel or any updates/expansion packs in the future?
Scott: We are updating all of the time, constantly adding new fun stuff. We will shortly have an update that adds Zombie Nibblers to the mix – and yes, you can cook them too!
PocketFullOfApps: Why did you choose the name (or how did you come about to choose the name) Cannibal Cookout?
Scott: It’s a long story! The short story is that I was sitting in a very hot tub after a gym session thinking … “This must be what it’s like to be cooked by a cannibal” … and so the game began.
PocketFullOfApps: How long did it take to develop Cannibal Cookout?
Scott: About 6 man years and an elapsed time of about 1 year.
PocketFullOfApps: Where did it all begin with Cannibal Cookout? What started it?
Scott: See above.
PocketFullOfApps: I see Cannibal Cookout is published under “MeYuMe” on the App Store. How did the name “MeYuMe’ come about?
Scott: The name MeYuMe originated from an idea from my business partner Andrew Reslan. We always wanted to create a social gaming platform, hence Me You and Me (MeYuMe). Sadly we never got to realise that ambition, but instead we have a great time developing games.
PocketFullOfApps: Anything else we can expect from you guys in the future? (apps, games, etc..)?
Scott: We want to really socialize Cannibal Cookout and we’re looking at ways for you to cook your friends (in a nice way) and trade ingredients.
PocketFullOfApps: Do you have any suggestions for aspiring App Store developers?
Scott: Never give up!
PocketFullOfApps: What do you think makes Cannibal Cookout stand out from other games of its genre?
Scott: I’d like to think it is a totally unique game and hopefully one that many players will find entertaining and addictive.
PocketFullOfApps: Do you have anything you would like to mention before this interview is over?
Scott: Please read the comic that is built into the game. As players cook the recipes you will get to find out how Whopper (the Cannibal) came to be, and the story that led up to the “ Cannibal Cookout” – it gives the backstory to the game and really helps to frame it.
Thanks to Scott for taking time out of your day and answering some questions!
