Dwellable’s New Travel App for the new iPad
Apps are slowly and surely appearing to replace every task we used to bring to a standard website. It’s clearly just a matter of time until apps take over the entire technological space (as Windows is proving, by deeply integrating apps into each element of their new operating system). And for those of you who like to travel, there’s a new app for the new iPad that will take booking incredible vacation destinations to a whole new level. The app is made by the good people at Dwellable, and their new pp for iPad will allow high-end vacation destinations to be viewable inside and out well before you’re ever asked to drop down that hefty deposit. Dwellable is praising how their new app takes complete advantage of the iPad 3’s much improved display with incredible photos and interactive maps. But it won’t only be a visual feast. With Dwellable‘s app, consumers will be able to browse tons of listings, filter by price and type, save their favorites and share the listings with others online.
Dwellable‘s CEO Brenda Spoonemore feels their new app “showcases the next generation search experience”, while their app on the iPad 3’s UI will cause consumers to be “blown away by the stunning photography”. Basically, high-end vacation property owners will be able to list their properties free of charge on the Dwellable app, and potential renters will experience a practically 3D immersion into each room of the space. But in addition to the crisp photography, users will also be able to filter their searches by price, number of beds and bathrooms, and options such as swimming pools and hot tubs.
Dwellable was launched in 2011 by Adam Doppelt, who previously co-founded popular foodie site Urbanspoon, and Rob Currie. Each of the Dwellable app listings is free to access for users, and they are currently offering over 50,000 vacation rental listings. The locations are currently contained within the United States’ most popular vacation destinations, including Florida, Hilton Head, Lake Tahoe, Hawaii, Cap Cod, San Diego, Colorado and the Outer Banks. Their principle competition on the platform is HomeAway, which launched their own iPad app back in August of 2011. HomeAway has had their greatest success with VRBO, the website where homeowners can list their houses as vacation rentals. And HomeAway has Dwellable beat, in that their offerings span the globe. Doppelt understands that they may not be able to compete with VRBO, the nation’s largest vacation rental site, and is hoping that the Dwellable app will take off before VRBO releases their own version.
Regardless of which app you use, it is clear that consumers have more resources at their disposal than ever before when it comes to planning that perfect vacation. As more and more people put aside their laptops for a tablet, the companies that want to survive will have to develop and release quality iPad apps in a hurry. And with all this portable information at the consumer’s fingertips, the days of the paid vacation planner may be numbered.
