‘Today in History’ Offers Tons of Information About Historical Facts
History has often been perceived as a boring compilation of chronology filled with dull and dry facts. However, it would impress people if it is presented in the right way I think. Today, let me review an iPhone app that looks to present history in the way people like to see it.
Today in History has five main sections in its home screen — Events, Births, Deaths, Holidays and More. The Event section lists all the important events that took place on that particular day. Users can know more about that event just by tapping it. It presents a brief explanation about the event with some useful external links. From there, they can add that event to their favorites, share it with their friends and mail it to them.
The Births section and Deaths section list the important people who were born and died on that particular day. Apart from listing the official holidays, the ‘Holiday’ section also provides details about important days such as International Language Day and Icelandic Language Day. There is one top navigation bar to help users change the date. If the users find some important historical events missing in Today in History, they can submit it to the developers right from the app. They can also add some private events to share with friends.
The features I like the most are:
- A clear, simple UI that lets even kids master it.
- Has over 100,000 events.
- Brief, crisp descriptions for all the events.
- Relevant Wikipedia links for each event.
- Smart integration of social media and sharing events is a breeze.
This app is compatible with iPhones and iPads running iOS 4.0 or later. Today in History costs $1.99 and the lite version is available for free.
