‘Genesis of War’ Review
Genesis Of War is a nice little game, where you play as a soldier, equipped with a jetpack and you fly around the screen. You shoot enemies that come your way collect skulls and use them as currency to buy better guns and unlock achievements, by completing each of its requirements.
Positives
The control scheme in Genesis of War is extremely simple — use the four virtual buttons on the left to move your character up, down, left or right, on the screen, and use the ‘shoot’ button on the right to fire bullets at enemies. This game uses the skulls you collect while playing the game as a currency that can be used to buy better guns, ranging from a price of 5,000 to 30,000. Each of the guns has its own specifications, so you will play this game again and again, trying to buy that last gun. In Genesis of War, you get scores in each round based on your kills, your score is displayed for each level while you are playing it on the top right. On the top left, is a count of the currency you have available in total. There are different types of enemies, and occasional radio chatter. Also, after killing a number of enemies, a tank, aeroplane, and other vehicles come to your aid for a limited time, shooting many bullets in different ways, helping you take out enemies, collect skulls, and make high scores! Genesis of War also has three different levels. By default, only the first one is unlocked, but you have to earn a specific number of points in order to unlock them, another thing that adds to its longevity. The background audio, is a thrilling and action sort of track, and suits the game pretty well, the shooting sound effects are sweet too.
Negatives
Genesis of War is a great game, but the reason it is often overlooked after seeing its screenshots on the AppStore is that its graphics don’t support the retina display, and even for non-retina supportive devices (like the iPhone 3GS) the graphics are still not up to the mark. Other than that, there is another factor that makes the game un-appealing, it is the character. The character is just frozen into position, and you move his frozen body around, and the flames from his jetpack increase and decrease in a pattern, whether you move or not. Also, it would be great if we could have a virtual joystick on the left, rather than buttons. Other than that, I find no complaints with the Game.
Bottom Line
Genesis of War is a great game to pick up and play when you have a few minutes to spare. It has good and simple gameplay, easy controls that could be better, and its graphics and the character position could be improved too, which would make this game a fun experience for all gamers who own it. Genesis of War deserves an honest rating of 3.5/5 stars, but improvements in a future update mean an even better score!
Final Rating 3.5/5 Stars
