Apple Media Event Roundup
The keynote is over! What have we learned? Read on for a full in-depth recap.
iPod Shuffle
Now, the first thing that Apple announced was the iPod Shuffle. It now features the return of buttons yet still retains voice-over and playlists from the previous generation. It comes in 5 different colours. The new Shuffle will cost $49/£39 for 2GB of storage.
iPod Nano
Next we have the new Nano. Apple have got rid of the click-wheel and instead have gone for an all touch-screen experience. The device is surprisingly small and cannot take pictures, video or watch video for that matter. However, it does include a clip like the iPod Shuffle. The new Nano comes in 7 different colors and costs $149/£129 for the 8GB and $179/£159 for the 16GB.
iPod Touch
Now on to the good stuff. The iPod Touch. The new touch screen device is even thinner yet still manages to support a font and rear-facing camera. The back-facing camera is capable of taking pictures and HD video whereas the front-facing will only be used for FaceTime, Apples new video calling service. The new iPod Touch also sports the new Apple A4 chip, retina display and gyroscope found in the iPhone 4. The new iPod Touch will cost $229/£189 for the 8GB, $299/£249 for the 32GB and $399/£329 for the 64GB.
Game Center
Game Center also made its debut at the event. This new Social Networking Service is solely designed for multiplayer games and provides a matchmaking service that will become useful in future online games.
iTunes 10
Next up was the new iTunes, coupled with a new logo. iTunes 10 boasts a new music social networking service known as Ping. Ping allows you to share music, tv shows and movies with your friends, follow your favorite artists and keep up-to-date with gigs and concerts and keep up with news and gigs around your area. The whole concept of Ping greatly resembles other social networking sites such as Facebook or Twitter, but just for music. iTunes10 is now available to download here!
Apple TV
Apple TV was then announced as the ‘one more thing’ tagline at the end of the show. The new Apple TV is now tiny and allows you to stream HD movies, videos and TV Shows right from iTunes onto your television. Also, if you are a Netflix subscriber you can watch all of their shows along with other video providers like YouTube. What’s more the whole package just costs $99/£99 (I don’t know what happened with the exchange rate).
So that’s it. The keynote was great, with a lot of new releases. I most certainly am going to bag myself a new iPod Touch (sorry 3G, you’re just too old now). What do you think of the keynote? Comment below.
