‘Hangman Plus’ Review
“The purpose of the game is to reveal all of the hidden words in each puzzle by guessing the correct corresponding letters.
The words in each puzzle are linked together logically, either by language or lateral device.”
A fun twist to the classic game of hangman.
Gameplay 8/10
Everyone knows the game of hangman. For those that have never had a rainy day without TV, cell phones or any other form of entertainment, here is a short recap.
The goal of hangman is to guess the word using letters. For every letter you get right more of the word reveals itself. For every letter you get wrong a body part is added to the hanging man.
If you manage to guess the word before the body is completed you win. That is pretty much all there is to hangman.
However Hangman Plus has a nice twist to it. Rather than just one word to complete you need to complete 3-4 words to complete the level. This while to clock is ticking and the faster you can guess the word the more points you get. The more chances you take the bigger the risk to lose but the greater the reward.
Another interesting addition to Hangman Plus is that you on each level are given two words that somehow is related to the words you need to complete.
“Power” and “Rangers” are the cheesy Japanese superheroes, but a “Moose” can be powerful as well and can be found in “Canada” where you have “Rangers” as well.
Presentation 6/10
Hangman Plus looks decent with colorful graphics and the only sound effects are winning, losing and selecting letters. Simple but hangman doesn’t need to be more than that.
Controls 6/10
The controls are very simple, you got the alphabet to choose letter from. The only flaw is the lack or horizontal tilt that would be a much needed addition for those that doesn’t have pin point accuracy.
Re-playability 8/10
You can keep playing Hangman Plus and somehow it manages to stay interesting. The faster you are the more points you get. The further you get, even if you have only spent 3 minutes of your time, you get a sense of “I really don’t want to lose at this point”. It is also very rewarding to post your score to the global scoreboard like yours truly at position 11…
Final Score 7/10
Hangman might sound boring to most but Hangman Plus has had me hooked due to the speed of the game, the interesting way of connecting the words and the global score board. The $0.99 price is just right and is perfect for those “3 minutes to kill” moments.
