‘Soul’ Review
If you have ever wondered about what would happen if you died and became a living spirit or soul? Then the game Soul from Kydos Studio might give you an idea of what might happen. In this game, It is up to you to guide the soul of the dead man to heaven on a periless journey through mazes and obstacles trying to free your soul from this world and get it into the next. But, your soul is fragile and it feels like everything is out to get you and stop you from completing your journey.
The object of the game is to get your soul past many different obstacles and maze like levels in an effort to move your soul from area to area and eventually reach heaven. All the while, things like soul eating monsters, water, and even elevators present dangers that can destroy your soul. Every level seems to present a new challenge for you to overcome and conquer to be able to make it to the heaven.
For controls, the game only uses tilt controls and they do take some getting use to for proper movement. Even on the lowest sensitivity setting, they can still be challenging to use when the going gets tough. There is no touch option or any other type of option for controls in the game. You have to move and manuver your soul around the levels and not touch anything on your way across the level. If you do touch something, then you have to restart the whole level over again and retry from the beginning of that level. You can touch the screen though to zoom out on the level and see the whole level to maybe get an idea of where you need to go and what you need to do next.
The game has only three options to choose from in the options menu. There is an option that lets you calibrate your device to the desired playing postion that you like, an option to turn vibration on or off, and an option to set the tilt sensitivity for your device.
The graphics for the game look really good and were done well. Your soul is brightly lit, while the world around you is dark and filled with hidden unknown dangers. It gives the game a dangerous horror type feel. Like your in a house at night and the only light in the house is from one candle. You never quite know whats lurking around the corner. There is no music to the game, but each level has it own sound effects that fill the void and complete the atomsphere for each level.
It is not the most indepth game with a lot going on, but it is decent with a nice idea for a game.
