‘The Infinity Project’ Review
I’m not going to say I’m an excellent gamer. I like to play games and I like to think I’m decent but I know I’m no hardcore gaming legend. Some games, I can get though quite successfully, others, I just fail really badly at. First person shooters are one of the genres that I suck really badly at.
The Infinity Project is a first person shooter that is developed by the indie developers Crazy Robot Games and it is in my opinion, one of the best first person shooters to come to the App Store.
The game is great not because of excellent graphics, or excellent sound effects, but because it’s a great game as a whole. The game plays extremely smoothly and although I haven’t finished the game yet, I really am enjoying the experience.
The controls are as good as you could possibly wish, and I’ve never really found I have died due to lack of control of my character. The best way to describe the controls is to say that they are exactly the same as that of Modern Combat: Sandstorm’s. There is a joystick on the left and to look around, you swipe around the screen. For shooting, there is a button in the bottom right and grenades are thrown by pressing the designated button on the left.
The graphics are, as I mentioned previously, nothing extraordinary. Most of the enemies just appear out of nowhere (admittedly in a well animated wispy energy mist) and just stand there when they shoot at you. Unfortunately, the only animations are the gunshots and when they walk.
The sound effects in this game are pretty good, though. The lasers sound like laser should sound, machine guns like machine guns, rocket launchers like rocket launchers and so on.
The main gripe with the game though was its insane difficulty (for me). Although there are three difficulty levels, (Easy, Medium, and Suicide) I still found it hard to get past some levels, which got really annoying at times.
Overall though, this is an excellent first person shooter. From what I’ve heard, this game has about 8 hours of game time and although I haven’t gotten that far yet, I can guarantee the price is more than justified by the content of the game and the fact that the graphics aren’t Gameloft’s doesn’t mean it’s not a good game.
Overall score – 5/5 (among the best first person shooters on the App Store)
