'Inotia: A Wanderer of Luone' Review
I love action RPGs. I only recently discovered them due to Seed 1 going free, but I feel stupid that it was my first. At first I hated RPGs as I was under the illusion that all RPGs were turn based, which in my opinion, suck.
Since I loved action RPGs so much, I was bound to be excited about Inotia: A Wanderer of Luone. The graphics looked sharp, the gameplay seemed awesome and the fact that you could add players to your party was really cool. In fact, the game seemed so full featured that any RPG fan was bound to love it!
I was right. But, Inotia 2 is an action RPG, however it is much more RPG based than most action RPGs are. There are 2 control schemes in this game but I will concentrate on the default one, which is touch controls.
I say the game is more action based mainly due to the way you fight enemies. When you want to attack an enemy, you tap on them and your character will lock on and attack them. What then happens is your character will use whatever weapon they have to attack the enemy and numbers will come up. The enemy will also attack and their damage comes up in red numbers. It is impossible to fight an enemy without getting hit as many times as you hit them, so success in fighting is purely based on the equipment you have and your level. This makes the game feel slightly turn based.
There is, however, one gameplay element that makes the game have much more depth. That is item combining. When you get enough items, you can go to a shop and combine them to make better items. This can also help clear your inventory, which is really important as in Inotia, you really don’t have much inventory space so you really have to try and keep the bare minimum.
The graphics in the game are really great. They are much more detailed than most other RPGs on the platform and they really make the game feel much more appealing. The music also helps a lot in this aspect. The music, which is best described as ‘oriental’ and is very calm and peaceful, really fits in the game. It gives the game a more ancient atmosphere.
Overall, this game is an excellent RPG if you’re an RPG fan or are looking for a less action based RPG on the idevice, but if you want a great action RPG for the idevice, you should probably look somewhere else.
