You may remember my short article about the announcement of Pro Zombie Soccer more than a month ago. And now Super Awesome Hyper Dimensional Mega Team, the developer behind the game, is kind enough to give me a demo copy of the game, so it means it is still a work-in-progress version and not the final one. Things can change, and it is for the better, knowing how passionate the developers are.
My first impression about the game was it looks visually stunning. It feels very polished right from the start. The game greeted me with the story of Jax, our hero, who is searching for food in the trash and he suddenly remembered a past scene in his life where he was rejected on a soccer try-out for his dream team. Maybe that’s the reason why he eats food from the trash – he got desperate? Then suddenly a zombie appeared and bit him on his arm. He felt different from that point on. And it’s only a matter of hours before he transform into one of the brain-eaters. But more zombies are coming his way and with only a soccer ball, he needs to take them out as long as he can.

The demo have only 4 levels to play through with only 3 maps. Your main goal is to take out zombies coming towards you. In the main gameplay screen, Jax stands only in one position on the left side. Behind him is a button in where you control his aim by simply dragging it up or down. Releasing it will make him kick the ball. Holding the button for a few seconds will charge up the kick and will deal more damage. Plus, achieving some head-shots doesn’t only give you a much higher score, it’s also a cooler way to kill those pesky zombies!
As you kill more zombies, you’ll learn different abilities that can make your game make a difference. That includes Lightning Ball where you can kick the ball more quickly, Piercing Ball where the ball pierces through the zombies so you can take out multiple bodies in one kick, and Angry Military Satellite where you can target zombies using either the accelerometer or by simply touching the zombies and the satellite will do the rest.

In my short playtime with pro Zombie Soccer, I can confidently say that this will be a good one. The gameplay is addicting and frantic, adding in with some impressive bloody and gory 2D visuals and a crisp and fluid animation, you can really keep an eye on this one. Also worth noting the full game will obviously have a complete story and more maps, Openfeint Integration, Zombie Odyssey Mode, and two difficulties – Casual and Hardcore.
The developers are looking on a late February release, but nothing is final.
