First off, Activision‘s skateboarding game Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 went on sale for $4.99, before this sale, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 was $9.99. This is very surprising how Activision would do this, plus this is a high quality game as well. Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 features:

• Skate as one of 12 other featured pros
• Master signature pro moves and hundreds of tricks including nose/tailslides, nose/bluntslides, lip tricks, nollies, manuals and more

Second, SEGA has dropped the price of their game Super Monkey Ball 2 to $5.99, before this sale, Super Monkey Ball 2 was $6.99. Super Monkey Ball 2 features:

• 4 characters  (Aiai, MeeMee, Baby, and GonGon)

Surprisingly, the price of Skate It costs only $6.99 which is a good deal for the game considering that this is a high quality game. Unfortunately, I haven’t gotten around to picking Skate It up yet, but will when I can. I’m curious how this will compare to Gameloft‘s skateboarding game, Skater Nation. Skate It costs $6.99 and weighs in at 102 MB.

Mike V: Do or Die – Skateboarding appeared in the App Store yesterday afternoon for $4.99. It is the second full-fledged skateboarding game to come out (after Skater Nation). Even though these two games have the same theme, they are totally different games. In Do or Die, you move using the accelerometer, not a virtual d-pad. Also, the tricks are pulled off by sliding or holding a skateboard on the right side of the screen. The best comparison I can make of the controls is to Touch Grind, without the board taking up the whole screen.

There are two game modes in Do or Die: Career and Free Ride. In Career, there are 7 different levels. You have a limited amount of time to gain experience to pass the level. Experience is gained by doing tricks and doing combos. In you gain enough experience, you level up. This gets you new gear. There is a lot more customization in Do or Die than in Skater Nation. In Free Ride, you select a location to go, and then you drive a cool car using the accelerometer and your finger to drive to that location. The driving part of the game is fun, but it feels out of place. In free ride you are able to go to all 7 locations no matter if you have unlocked them or not.

The controls in Do or Die are easy to get used to if you have played Touch Grind. But if you haven’t played Touch Grind, it will take some time to get used to it. You can swipe, tap, hold, or double-tap the board in various places to pull off tricks. One thing I found weird was that it is very hard to crash. You can pull off crazy tricks without having to start with an Ollie. The controls in Do or Die are creative and fun, but you could easily get frustrated with them.

The graphics in Do or Die, in my opinion, aren’t as good as Skater Nation’s. However the developer of Do or Die is more available than Gameloft, so I believe that the developer will listen to any feedback. Overall, if you are a skateboarding fanatic, you will find yourself at home with the controls and the game. I have seen many opinions about the game, and everyone wants a comparison to Skater Nation. So I’ll give my opinion. I prefer Skater Nation to Do or Die because of the controls. I felt at home with the normal A and B controls plus the virtual d-pad. However I never played Touch Grind, so it was hard for me to get the controls right.

Before you go out and buy the game you need to note: THIS GAME REQUIRES THE IPHONE 3G OR BETTER, AND THE IPOD TOUCH 2G OR BETTER. So before you spend $4.99 on a game, make sure that your device meets the requirements. Another thing to note is that this game allows you to play your own music, so you don’t have to listen to their soundtrack if you don’t want to. If you still aren’t convinced, there are some websites you can go to see videos.

Mike V:Do or Die-Skateboarding on the App Store.

Driver: This is rumored to be an enhanced port of the PlayStation 1 classic. So expect a more linear, mission based experience than that of the sandbox world of Gangstar: West Coast Hustle, with a focus on in-car action and cinematic cop chases rather than the go anywhere, do anything style of more recent titles. That said, Driver was (and is) an amazing game, and is responsible for spawning a generation of 3D crime-sims such as Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto series, so when it screeches onto on iPhone/iPod Touch should be a 100 mile an hour trip down memory worth taking.

N.O.V.A: Basically HALO in your pocket, this sci-fi first-person shooter is gunning for top spot on the AppStore. And given that it will offer both a singleplayer story mode and online multiplayer options (deathmatch and team) it definitely has the potential to kill the competition (e.g. Eliminate, Call of Duty: Zombies). Gameloft previously (almost) perfected touchscreen FPS controls with Modern Combat: Sandstorm, so I’m expecting a flawless gameplay experience from Nova. Playing as a Master Chief lookalike whose futuristic weaponry includes: a pistol, assault rifle, shotgun, sniper rifle and plasma cannon, enemies will most likely be HALO-style aliens, with the action taking place in an intergalactic setting.

Skater Nation: A fully 3D skate ‘em up, that will feature: A nonlinear city environment, a choice of 8 Skaters and a feature that allows the player to upload tricks and replays to YouTube. This game recalls console smash hits like the Tony Hawk series and SKATE, and looks impressive even at this early stage. A combination of accelerometer and touch controls should work well, and Gameloft has already proven with Gangstar that an amazing open world is possible on the platform. Loading times have cut down, so you’ll be able to travel seamlessly from one area to the next.

Avatar: The Game: Based on the forthcoming sci-fi film, Avatar is a third person shooter that looks similar to Gameloft’s Terminator Salvation game. The storyline will act as a prequel to the movie, while gameplay seems to consist of Tomb Raider style exploration and explosive shoot outs with the space marines who are plundering this lush alien planet.

Tom Clancy’s HAWX: Take to the skies in a fighter jet and expect ferocious dog-fights with enemies. Hopefully Online multiplayer will be in place by the game’s release. Tom Clancy HAWX is rumored to be out in December.

Gameloft announced their new upcoming skateboarding game named ‘Skater Nation’ via their new youtube/podcast video. Skater Nation is a skateboarding game like I said and it’s fully 3D and has 8 skateboarders to choose from. Gameloft also released some details on Skater Nation which include:

• Fully 3D
• Nonlinear City Environment
• 8 Skaters
• Upload tricks and replays to YouTube

There has been very little talk about this game and very little info has been released about Skater Nation. There’s no word on when Skate Nation will be released and the price of Skater Nation. Skater Nation starts at 0:52 in the embedded video above and below.
