Electronic Arts (EA) has finally released a brand new update to one of their classic games : Tetris ! What you could find in this update is many new features and things added to make it a better game. In this update, Tetris will now support the Retina Display on your Iphone4 or on your Ipod Touch 4th generation. The update also includes brand new gameplay options and a new unlockable game mode called Endless Mode that will allow you to keep playing beyond level 16! The update also introduce new controls methods with a new flick up gesture to hold your Tetrimino in place and The original TETRIS theme song, Korobeiniki, will now be available in the options menu in the game.

You think that’s all and enough? Well no, because they also added, in this big update, Fast app switching capability to get in and out of games quicker and easier for IOS4 and a possibility to choose between two languages including french and english, of course…! After this update, You’ll see that Tetris still didnt take a lot of size in your device with still only 18.4 Mb. The game has currently a 4.5/5 rating in the US appstore after this update and is avaible for $2,99.

With the announcement of the next generation iPad that could be just around the corner plus with various rumors and speculation that it could also have a Retina Display that would up the pixel count to a whopping 2048×1536 (260 DPI) I thought it would be approbate to have the Poll of the Week pertain to it before the announcement. So, with that said, let’s get started. This week’s Poll of the Week is: Do you think the iPad will have a Retina Display? For me, it only seems logical that it would almost, only because the iPhone 4 got one and so did the iPod Touch 4G. When the iPhone 4 was first announced, Apple loaded it with a lot of new features, some of which were really amazing like the Retina Display. Well later that year Apple released the new iPod Touch 4G that also featured the new Retina Display. With that said, it would only make sense that the iPad would get the Retina Display, doubling it’s number of pixels to 2048×1536 (260 DPI). That’s a lot of pixels. To put it in simpler terms, it’s basically doubling the iPad’s 9″ screen, but being able to keep it the same size yet have the number of pixels a 18″ screen would have pretty much I guess you could say.

First off, hidden within Apple’s iBook app is a picture of the bookmark image for iPadx2. When the term “x2″ us used, it basically means a doubled screen resolution from the previous generation of that device like the iPhone 3GS to iPhone 4 for example. This is very supportive evidence for the next generation iPad to get a Retina Display, however, there’s another piece of evidence as well.

The next piece of evidence to blame is simply a picture of wood that is also found in Apple’s iBook app. Yes, a picture of wood. Found in iBook’s sources files is a file titled “Wood Tile@2x.png” and is 1536×800 pixels, exactly double the amount of pixels “Wood Tile.png” has.

While this is very supportive evidence for a Retina Display equipped iPad, a lot ca still happen between now and the time it is announced, so we’ll have to see what happens.

[Mac Rumors]

Well, Daring Fireball‘s John Gruber is saying that the next generation iPod Touch will be released in “a few weeks” and will include dual cameras and the Retina Display. Here’s the full quote:

That’s almost twice as much as a good iPod Touch, and if you wait a few weeks to buy the Touch, you’ll get one with a Retina Display and dual cameras. If Dell can’t make an iPod Touch competitor, who can?

It’s a very good assumption that the next generation iPod Touch will get dual cameras or at least a front-facing camera for FaceTime. As for a Retina Display that’s a possibility, however, not as high as the next generation iPod Touch getting dual cameras or a front-facing camera for FaceTime. Now, as for that rumor that Apple may announce the new iPod Touch as soon as early next week contradicts what John Gruber said. But a rumor is a rumor and a prediction is a prediction, though. Want to compare the iPhone 4′s display to the iPhone 3GS’s display? Well, I have you covered thanks to MobileCrunch. Here’s a photo:

As you can tell, the iPhone 3GS’s display (on the right) isn’t as sharp and crisp as the iPhone 4′s display (on the left). The reason is, is because the iPhone 4′s display has a Retina Display and an IPS panel. The Retina Display allows the iPhone 4′s display to hold 4X more pixels than the iPhone 3GS’s display.
