At first, this may seem like an odd editorial/title/article (don’t worry, I do too), however, once you read this, it may make sense at first (hopefully). As we all know, the App Store has been around for some time now and has had a huge spike in downloads along with users in the last 6 months. Along with that, we’ve seen the biggest increase of iOS gaming and new releases of games for iOS devices as well. We’ve seen everything from First Person Shooters like Mordern Combat 2, to RPGs, online games, board games ports like Monopoly and The Game of Life, to fantasy, action, sports, to shoot ‘em ups, zombies, puzzle, and so many more. But with all those mentioned, something stands out the most with those. I’ve never seen Mordern Combat 2: Black Pegasus, World of Goo, Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP, Final Fantasy III, Dungeon Defenders: First Wave, or similar games never as high in the top paid charts as say…Angry Birds, Air Penguin (yes penguins are birds), or Tiny Wings. You know what all these games have in common? Birds. Yes, birds. This is where the title comes into play. All of those games have been in the top 10 or 15 for a really good amount of time and may still be there. So, it seems to be as if iOS users love birds, a lot. While that’s not all the reason, it’s just something funny I thought of out of no where. The other part of the reason I believe, is that iOS users also love a simple yet well made UI, a game that you can pull out and kill a couple of minutes with, along with polished graphics like Angry Birds or Tiny Wings.

While this may have nothing to do with much, it’s just something funny observation I made and I think the latter reason is a bigger factor than the bird factor. At the time of the writing, those games were at those positions, however, they may have changed since then.
