Shark DashGameloft has announced their new game for smartphones and tablets, Shark Dash. Available April 19th for $0.99 on the App Store and Google Play. Shark Dash is a fun and addictive physics-based puzzle game that pits rubber sharks against rubber duckies in a war for supremacy over the bathtub.
In Shark Dash you play as Sharky, a happy-go-lucky bath toy — at least until the mischievous ducks kidnapped his girlfriend. Now you and some of your other shark buddies – equipped with special skills of their own — must conquer the 96 levels of puzzles set across four different worlds (tubs, really) to get Sharky’s girlfriend back.
Q&A with Shark Dash Producer Arnaud Bonnard
Q: What makes Shark Dash original compared to the dozens of physics puzzle games already out there? -
A: First of all, the game has unique gameplay features, based on fluid mechanics and many tricks and traps (bombs, pipes, portals etc.). Water is at the heart of the gameplay, and it is used in a way that has never been seen before!
Secondly, the game has an irresistible artistic design with its colorful, cartoonish and cute graphics. In addition, the universe starring funny little bath toys is extremely charming: each shark has its own behavior, and they are all cute, funny and engaging. They don’t deserve this invasion of dimwitted (and hilarious) ducks!
This game also offers a very high production value with a rich and varied gameplay that provides hours of fun with 96 levels spread across 4 environments.
Q: How did you come up with the idea of bathtoys? And why mean ducks and cute sharks? -
A: The original concept came from our creative director. At the start of development for this cute, casual $0.99 game, he thought that it would be cool to feature bath toys in water (an underused element so far): squishing a toy to throw it, seeing it bounce and react with various obstacles and with water (diving underwater then coming back to the surface), etc. The theme of mean ducks and cute sharks came only after when we developed more of the background settings and decided to invert the usual roles to create funnier situations.
Q: How did you use water environments to create the gameplay mechanics?
A: Water is the heart of the game! It creates great gameplay behavior that we don’t see in other games. The first step was to work the basic moves: jumping from anywhere in the bath, underwater inertia, bouncing and colliding. Once these core elements were established, we moved on to the second step: to give clear characteristics to all the daily life items you can find in your own bathroom. Soap is heavy and will sink to deeper depths, soap bubbles stay at the surface and will slow you down if you jump on them, bath salts are weak blocks that will melt if they touch water, etc. Situations must be clear for the player and produce fun reactions, both visually and with regard to the physics.
Heads up — Gameloft is pleased to announce that the popular and ultimate block breaking game on smartphones, Block Breaker 3, has gone free-to-play. Block Breaker 3 Free+ is now available for iPhone and iPad on the iTunes App Store.
When it was originally released for $0.99, Block Breaker 3 Unlimited was critically acclaimed by both users (4/5 ratings on stores) and the press. And for good reasons: with its 7 locations, 100 levels and varied puzzles and bosses, Block Breaker 3 Unlimited truly offered innovative gameplay mechanisms and incredible production values.
Gameloft has chosen the free to play model for Block Breaker 3 because we want the game to fulfill its full potential. With this new version, you can play the game every day for free and go through all 100 levels available in the original game. And when you do run out of balls, you can still resort to the lottery to win new ones. You can pickup Block Breaker 3 Free+ from the App Store right here.
