Rapid Recap: Daisy Mae’s Alien Buffet
Dual stick shooters are pretty cool. Minigore, Guerrilla Bob, they’re all good. Well, Daisy Mae is a new dual-stick shooter by IUGO, but unfortunately, this one didn’t reach its full potential. It just seemed lacking, in my opinion.
You open the game and press play, and at first it’s good. You play as Daisy Mae, shooting down the aliens with your guns in the middle of nowhere. There are some obstacles like fences to block your path aswell. But after a few minutes, it just seems to get boring. There are some new monsters as you go along, but not very many new weapons. You can find new ones by shooting down monsters and hope that they drop one. At the end, your score is posted globally, but there are no special leaderboards like OpenFeint or Plus+, just IUGO ones. This game needs an update and fast, otherwise people will just get Minigore.
The graphics are pretty good, and pretty nostaligic of old horror movies. You play with a zoomed out view, so you can see more monsters. The screen crackles a bit like it used to do at the old drive in. It’s a pretty nice touch. But good graphics is kind of a standard with all IUGO games.
The controls weren’t the best, but they were okay. They were just subpar in my opinion. One for moving, one for shooting, pretty simple. The game wasn’t laggy at all, high FPS (frames per second). It ran pretty well on my iPod Touch 2G, so I bet it runs better on a iPod Touch 3G.
I think I’d recommend the game to any hardcore dual-stick shooter fans. It wasn’t the best game, but it wasn’t particularly bad. If you have some iTunes cash left, think about picking it up.
