Commando Jack is primarily a tower defense game and most reviews I have seen about it are so-so about the game. Aliens from Mars have arrived and let most aliens they want to take over the world. So is Commando Jack fun? I think so.
Before I go into the specifics of the game, some details. The graphics and music are great. The game played very smoothly on my iPod Touch 5th Generation and had no crashes or choppy play. The game does provide in-app purchases for coins but if you play a lot and progress you might not need to use them.
When you first begin the game, there is a tutorial mission you can do to get a hand on how to play. The controls and menu system of the game is pretty straight forward so it should not take you too long to figure out.
Once you are ready to play for real, you will choose a level, then Campaign and difficulty settings. There is an endless mode you can unlock after you have played awhile and earned enough coins. You can also unlock elementals (weapons) and mixed aliens waves also.
Also as you start a level, you will come to a screen that provides you details on the enemy and weapons. You can use the coins you earn to unlock different types of weapons and upgrades. You will also be shown which types of aliens are going to attack so you can prepare to some extent.
There appears to be 9 main turrets and 6 elemental weapons, each of which can be upgraded. Within the first person shooter area, there are 4 different guns, which can be upgraded and finally 2 super weapons.
The levels appear to be located in different cities from various counties in the world. You first start in the UK, then Japan, US, Europe, Italy, and Egypt.
To the fighting… To begin, you setup your defenses in the appropriate area. When you are done either time or no more money, you then head over to Commando Jack’s gun and switch to the first person shooter. You will be able to zoom in and out via the menu button, aim the weapon on the left side of the screen and then tap to shoot on the right hand side of the screen. Once you are in the game, it will make sense.
Like any tower defense game, the enemy comes in waves. Hopefully your tower defense will hold them off, if not Commando Jack is ready to take over.
I am not a big tower defense game fan but I like the first person shooter aspect of Commando Jack. Looking down the barrel of a huge machine gun popping aliens is cool. The cartoon graphics and the ability to upgrade weapons and game modes will provide the user a lot of options. So if you like tower defense, go help Commando Jack stop the alien invasion.
