As iPhone OS 4.0 has been released for developers for 6 days, developers have released info on unannounced features in iPhone OS 4.0, which Apple obviously didn’t announce. Some of the announced features are:

• The Photos app has Faces and Events
• You can now scale/reduce the file size of an image or video in the default Mail app
• Passcodes can now have letters AND numbers, where as before it was numbers only
• In Spotlight when you enter text in the text field you can now search the web or search Wikipedia
• Auto focus while recording a video
• When sending a text message, it shows how many characters you have used, but only if you type more than 44 characters
• The “About” option in the Settings app shows new info
• You can now either set an image of your choice to “Set Home Screen”, “Set Lock Screen”, or “Set Both”
• Rate on Delete is gone as well

That’s just some of the unannounced features in iPhone OS 4.0 and there are many more yet to be discovered. Also, iPhone OS 4.0 has brought over 1500 new APIs for developers to use as well. If you want to, you can get the Emoji keyboard in iPhone OS 4.0 for those of you that use it. Now, to get the Emoji keyboard in iPhone OS 4.0 you will need Emoji Free! (or any other Emoji keyboard app) which is, obviously, free. To get the Emoji keyboard in iPhone OS 4.0 here’s how:

1. Start up Emoji Free! or any other Emoji keyboard app you have then exit app when prompted to do so
2. Open up the Settings application
3. Tap on the “General” option
4. Tap on the ”International” option
5. Tap on the “Keyboards” option
6. Tap on “Select Add New Keyboard” option
7. Scroll down to the “Emoji” keyboard then tap on it And there you go! You now have the Emoji keyboard!

Now, this doesn’t work if you go to the Keyboard settings selection directly, and you can’t delete the Emoji keyboard as well. To do this in iPhone OS 3.1.3 (or lower I think as well) here’s how to get the Emoji keyboard:

1. Start up Emoji Free! or any other Emoji keyboard app you have then exit app when prompted to do so
2. Open up the Settings application
3. Tap on the “Keyboard” option
4. Tap on the ”International Keyboards” option
5. Then scroll to the “Emoji” option and tick it to “On” And there you go! You now have the Emoji keyboard!

Congratulations you now have the Emoji keyboard enabled on iPhone OS 4.0 or iPhone OS 3.1.3!

Something Apple didn’t announce at the iPhone OS 4.0 announcement was that rate on delete was removed in iPhone OS 4.0. Currently in iPhone OS 3.2 (for iPad) and iPhone OS 3.1.1 (for the iPhone and iPod Touch) when you delete an application, you get an pop-up asking to you rate the application you are wanting to delete. Now, you can tap “No thanks” and not rate the app or you could (if you wanted to) you could rate the app. Rate on delete was first introduced in iPhone OS 2.2 as a way for users to rate the app with out having to access the iTunes App Store to rate the app. Many developers believe that “rate on delete” contributed to negative reviews that were coming from users that didn’t like that app. I guess Apple has listened to the complaint of many users who don’t like this. Now, hopefully Apple will just keep it that way.

Well, that’s not a surprise, iPhone OS 4.0 has been jailbroken within hours of release. MuscleNerd who is from the iPhone Dev Team released this video demoing Veency from the Cydia Store on iPhone OS 4.0:

Details on how to jailbreak iPhone OS 4.0 have not been released yet, but probably will be released when iPhone OS 4.0 is released. MuscleNerd has also said that the developer preview of iPhone OS 4.0 is quite buggy. Now, for those of you that are curious, Veency allows you to show your iPhone or iPod Touch screen on a computer. Veency is, obviously, for Jailbroken devices only and is free on the Cydia Store.
