Turn-based gaming adds another level of excitement to Game Center on iOS 5. We’ve recently increased the data size for turn-based matches from 4 kb to 64 kb, so you can take the fun to another level with more sophisticated gaming scenarios. Learn more about turn-based matches in Game Center.

So I guess following up on this, I guess we can call expect online turn-based iOS games to be more intense and to have more action going on than normal with the newly increased data limit. Hopefully developers will start yo update their games now, however, I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

The main reason to look to the app world is simple: it’s always there. Having access to fashion advice whether you’re sifting through your closet or racks at a store means you are never without your fallback when you need some helpful hints to make wise decisions. In fact, you can even take the What Not to Wear team wherever you go. If you’d like to have Stacy on one shoulder and Clinton on the other, you can stick them in your pocket and pull them out at a moment’s notice. With tons of free podcasts like “How to Wear Jeans”, “No More Second-hand”, and plenty of clips full of advice from the shows, anyone can figure out what to toss, how to shop, and most importantly, the rules for their body type. Of course, you could also pay to download your favorite shows as a way to take their fashion tips with you, but the podcast offers a lot for free.

However, there is another great reason to turn to the wide world of apps; it’s a heck of a lot easier than trying to figure things out on your own. That obviously hasn’t worked so far. And the fashion industry is anything but easy to decipher for the uninitiated. So instead of trying to figure out which Bryant Park offerings to emulate (and which to leave in the world of high art) let your apps do the legwork for you.

You should start with an app called Chicfeed. This freebie offers a world of inspiration thanks to a dense catalog of photos from some of the best fashion blogs on the web (Sartorialist, Jack and Jill, LookBook, etc.) and it is updated frequently. If you really want to be on the cutting edge though, consider getting Vogue Stylist, which provides you with tips and trends straight from the editors (as well as a click-to-buy option). And you should definitely download StyleCaster, which puts together a hassle-free look for you based on the daily weather report in your area (does it get any easier?). Once you’ve got a whole new wardrobe, download Stylebook to help you organize it. All you have to do is snap some pics and you can virtually create outfits for the entire week!

In short, your favorite iDevice is your one-stop shop for fashion advice. It will do practically everything short of creating personalised t-shirts and actually pulling the clothes onto your body. All you have to do is download a few good apps and you’ll soon be on your way to a stylish wardrobe that makes people look at you for all the right reasons.

2. Go to “Search” tab and type in “SiriToggles“.

For commands, here’s a few pointers.

• Toggling — Speak either “enable/disable” or “turn on/turn off” then one of the following:
  1. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and such.
• Battery level — Ask something like “How much battery do I have left?”.
• Brightness — Say “Set brightness to x%” (replace x with desired number).
• Open an app — Say “Launch” then the name of the app you want to open.

Okay, so the obvious place to start is with big names Netflix and Hulu, both of which have apps for your iPad. In both cases the app is free to download, but without a paid subscription they won’t do you any good. Netflix seems to be the better bet of the two. With the majority of user reviews being positive, the only complaints seem to be buggy updates (which generally get fixed before long) and some streaming issues on Wi-Fi, although more users contend that they’ve had no problems with the app, so perhaps spotty connectivity is to blame. And considering you can stop a movie on your TV or computer and continue playback on your iPad, it definitely comes with some cool features. As for Hulu, there seem to be quite a few drawbacks, but the one that most people complain about is the ads. And for a paid service, that’s definitely a problem.

However, there are other options. Unfortunately, not all are created equal. If you have given in and gotten yourself one of the many cable alternatives for the home, like Dish Network, Cox TV, or Xfinity TV (from Comcast), for example, you are pretty much out of luck on the app front. User reviews tear their apps to shreds. So for those that want their favorite TV shows wherever they go, many networks have apps that offer free viewing of their lineups, usually available the day after they air (NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX, and more). Or you can try TV.com to get a wide variety of shows (including some older shows) for free, although you will have to deal with ads.

As for movies, there are apps for studios and premium movie channels alike (Sony Pictures and HBO, just to name a couple), but none get good reviews. Crackle is worth downloading for a variety of TV shows and movies for free, but the movies are not terribly current (although they add 20 new ones each month). Looks like you’ll either have to pay for downloads a la carte on iTunes or simply stick to Netflix to mainline your favorite films wherever you go. You should, however, check out Snagfilms. This freebie gives you access to a variety of documentaries and short films and user reviews are overwhelmingly positive.

Unfortunately, it looks like many of us will have to rely on dvd duplication services for the time being to get the best quality when it comes to movies and television. But with more and more people demanding content on the go, it may not be long before we see some truly comprehensive and reliable apps for the iPad. Keep your fingers crossed.
