Weekly Jobs Update: 12-19-11
PocketFullOfApps will now keep our readers updated on who are the top recruiters each week! Watch out for our jobs alert every Monday morning and get yourself up-to-speed on all the hiring that’s going on in the social/mobile games industry.

To begin with, Social networking site and gaming platform Tagged has acquired its competitor Hi5. The consolidation is expected to result in a loss of net jobs, but Tagged is hiring producers and product managers aggressively at this point. Check out some of their recent openings in San Francisco. You can also reach out to Mark Dove on LinkedIN who is an active recruiter for these companies.
Another company that’s hiring a bunch of gaming types is Mindspark Interactive. Mindspark is part of IAC group and owns a bunch of websites like CollegeHumor.com, Match.com, eHarmony.com etc. It has now entered the gaming space and is building out a whole new gaming studio in Los Angeles. Check out their site and look mainly for the Los Angeles based openings. You can reach out to me if you need a referral here.
TinyCo is another company that has some urgent openings. It’s a great company to work for and is the creator of popular iOS games like Tiny Pets and Tiny Zoo. It is quite profitable at this point and is based in San Francisco. Tweet me if you need a referral here.
This is all for now! Also check out other companies like OMGPOP, Arkadium, and Riot Games who have a smaller number of openings at the moment.
Here are a few tips when you go for the interview.
- Research the company thoroughly and make sure you play their games at least a few times. Most interviewers are interested in knowing what you think of their games. A sound and thoughtful review of their games goes a long way.
- Be creative. Game companies adore people who have a creative dent. It doesn’t matter what position you are applying for. During the interview, talk about how you have been a creative thinker when it came to solving problems at work.
- Reach out to them even before they call you for an interview. The way you can do this is by looking for the HR person on LinkedIN and dropping in a quick message. A HR receives hundreds of resumes and such a tactic will make him/her remember you.
- Go beyond just a resume. Some people have built their own professional websites to showcase their talents. It’s not too hard to make such sites. Try out Wix.com and use their easy tools to create one. Companies love these things.
- Keep yourself updated on the latest news in the gaming industry. This is a huge plus when you go for the interview.
