Nival, an independent developer best known for their strategy games, have finally announced that Etherlords is available now for free on the App Store for both iPad and iPhone. Featuring innovation in its “world building” mechanic, offline PvP battles and optimized controls, Etherlords contains all the trademark ingredients of a full-scale console strategy title. Thanks to the game’s easy to navigate interface, it is designed for playing with just one finger, on the move or if you’re commuting. Etherlords is a deep yet streamlined strategy game in setting where a cataclysm has erupted. Taking on the role of a powerful Etherlord, players must fight other demigods using various creatures to win valuable matter, the important ingredient for restoring the world.
Like we covered later last month, Etherlords has an unique “world-building” gameplay mechanic inspired by Carcassonne with players spending their resources to build tiles that become living earth (terrain). This terrain then generates Ether and gives birth to creatures that can be collected and deployed into battle. The game also includes an extensive multiplayer component with asynchronous PvP powered by user-generated worlds and creatures that can be “fused” together. In total, there are more than 180 creatures including Wolves, Dragons, Witchdoctors, Scorpion Kings, and more.
