How to: Install iOS 8 if You’re Low on Free Space
Still running into issues with installing iOS 8? Well if you are, recent reports have hinted that iOS 8 needs a hefty 5GB of free space to install and for those on 8GB devices this makes it extremely hard. Even though an OTA (over the air) update is more convenient, sometimes the old school method works better and is a little bit safer. For those unfamiliar with the backup, update and restore process, be sure to read our how to guide below and you’ll be on your way to using iOS 8 in no time.
- This should be fairly obvious, but be sure to backup your iOS device through iTunes and manually backup your photos, messages, contacts and apps if you feel inclined to.
- Now that you’ve backed up your iOS device, click on “Restore” and you will be promoted to update to iOS 8.
- Once iTunes downloads iOS 8, it will install onto your device then the restore process will begin. Depending on your internet connection and how fast your computer is, it could take anywhere from thirty minutes to a couple hours.
Alternatively if doing the old school method doesn’t sound appealing, you could always look into deleting apps that take up a lot of space then redownload them after updating to iOS 8. Like always though, it’s very important to backup your data no matter what the circumstance.
